Tips For Temps

If you're planning to temp in Australia, give yourself a head start:

  • Make sure you can type at a decent 45+ words per minute.
  • Review Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint so that you score well on the tests you'll have to take.

Before you make an appointment with an agency, have the following things ready to go:

  • Your tax file number or the application receipt from the tax office
  • Your local bank information to arrange for direct deposit
  • A hard copy of your resume
  • An electronic version of your resume, in case the recruiter wants it available to email to clients
  • A list of at least three references and their contact information, including email addresses for those further away than a local phone call
  • The results of any skill tests you have taken at other temp agencies

Dress as you would for any professional interview, even if you just want work as a telemarketer. The economy is still slow in Australia and there can be heavy competition for good assignments. The more responsible you look, the better your chances of getting steady work.
